We needed a way to check if the VAMI file level backups of our vCenters and PSC’s have succeeded or not so i went ahead and started searching for a way to Alert on failed backups and make dashboards of Failed and Completed backups.

This is the Query i came up with to check if backups have started :

backups of 6.7 and 7 with match “any”

This you can change to “Failed” very easily to see if any backups have failed and make an Alert for it. Same goes for successfull backups.

Also wanted to mention that there is an existing issue with VAMI backups failing on DB Healthcheck as of this time of writing in vCenter 7.0.3 :
