Build Automated Images with HashiCorp Packer
HashiCorp Packer is an open-source tool that automates the creation of machine images, including Docker images and images for cloud service providers. Platform teams can use Packer to create "golden images" for standardizing cloud infrastructure.
HCP Packer is a cloud service that provides more automation and centralized management of images for use with Terraform.
HashiCorp Packer can automate the building of golden images tracked in the HCP Packer registry. This registry stores metadata about the images, including when they were created, where they exist in the cloud, and what git commit is associated with the build. The registry designates which images are appropriate for test and production environments, and the golden images can be used in infrastructure provisioning workflows.
