2025 is coming to an end and so is my journey in the VDI world. In the past years, I’ve seen several shout-outs for “the year of VDI” but in the end, I never felt any of the past years really was “the year of VDI”. I have been missing the excitement I’ve had during my first years in the VDI world, and that’s why, in 2024, I started to shift my focus to another world inside the IT landscape, namely, the Cloud-Native world.

Of course, that doesn’t mean there’s no use case for VDI anymore. On the contrary, VDI can definitely be a solution for some use cases, but I’m missing 2 major things at the moment: Innovation and Operating System support. Why is it still so hard to get a recent operating system working in a VDI environment? I’m not talking about just the installation, as in most cases, that will be just fine, but getting it to run performant and user-friendly still requires a lot of tricks, registry hacks, scripts, …

That being said, 2025 was a year of learning a lot. This also had an impact on my blog. My latest article here was almost 1 year ago. Due to my work being less with VDI and more with Cloud-Native related stuff, I didn’t have any notable topics to share here about VDI. Also, most of my non-working time was invested in learning. But it paid off! Starting 2025, I set myself a goal to become a Kubestronaut. I already had my CKA certification from 2024, but that meant that I still had to get KCNA, KCNS, CKAD and CKS. 4 certifications in 1 year on a topic I was still learning about. Not an easy task, I put myself into. But I can proudly say that as of today, December 29, 2025, I have completed the remaining 4 certifications, and I am now officially a Kubestronaut.

I never could have succeeded in this journey without the support of my employer, ITQ, and my colleagues. Many, many, many thanks for believing in me and supporting me on this journey!

I’m really excited to enter 2026 and to find out what’s next! There’s still so much unexplored territory for me in the Cloud-Native world and I can’t wait to continue my journey. But first, a little rest, enjoying the Holidays with family and friends.

I wish all of you a healthy, successful and wonderful 2026!
